However, as more and more people join the social media movement, it no longer takes just manpower and wit to win the attention of social media users.  What’s a entrepreneur, blogger, or content developer to do?

The answer lies within a smart investment in social media advertising.  There are lots of ways to advertise on social media sites, but we are just going to cover 3 of the most popular: Facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter.

Facebook Ads allows your message to turn into a trusted referral by including content from a user’s friends who are already affiliated with your products.

When you create your ads on Facebook Ad, the platform provides real-time suggested bids for its auction-based system. You can tweak your ad’s price and reach based on its various targeting filters such as age, college level and location.

An important advantage of Facebook Ads over other social media advertising options is its user-friendly  manager tool.

LinkedIn Ads

There is no other social media platform that means more business than LinkedIn.

According to LinkedIn, the site has about 90 million worldwide users (close to 36% U.S. based). Segmentation is available by geography, job function and seniority, industry and company size, and gender and age.

The advertising management platform is similar to the one from Facebook, but unlike Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads does not provide graph tools and opts for simpler and faster delivery of stats (clicks, page impressions, etc.) through text.

LinkedIn Ads stands out from other social media advertising options as the only platform that allows you to target ads by job function, job seniority, industry, and company size.


mylikesMyLikes is a word-of-mouth advertising platform that allows the long tail of influencers (a.k.a Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook celebrities) on the web to create endorsements for products and services they like.

This is a tool used by famous celebrities such as Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, and Snoop Dogg.

MyLikes gained a lot of notoriety when it participated in the famous publicity stunt from Mafia Wars (developed by Zynga), in which the Mafia Wars team blew up an armored truck with the help of Snoop Dogg.

Once you have established yourself or your organization as a reputable source in social media, it is a worthwhile investment to do smart advertising. Good options are Facebook Ads for Facebook advertisement, LinkedIn Ads for LinkedIn promotion, and MyLikes for Twitter marketing.
