Smartphones and tablets are in the hands of more consumers every day. The days of leaving your work at home are long gone, but these devices bring home and work together like never before. Wi-Fi functionality makes them capable of connecting to your corporate network, making employees ever so much more productive.

It’s tempting to simply disallow such connections for security reasons, but with so many users – or when the user in question is a C-level executive – saying “no” isn’t always an option. Here are a few ways to let folks connect at work without creating dozens of security holes.

Differences Between Facebook and Google+

Google+ provides easier access to options for sharing information than Facebook does. Google+ Circles allows its users to select which of their friends they want to share certain things (such as a photo or post) with, while not allowing the others to see them. Meanwhile, Facebook does not offer an easy to use option to select specific friends to share each individual item with. And the privacy selections that Facebook does provide are very limited.

9 Tips for a Successful Webinar Event

tips for succesful webinar

Webinars serve multiple purposes. In business, webinars can be a valuable tool for solidifying relationships with your clients. Depending on its content, you may even consider hosting a webinar-for-profit. However, even the best content won’t make up for bad hosting.

Even though the audience enjoys the benefit of not spending time and money to travel to a central location, they are still spending time to attend the webinar. If they feel the webinar isn’t worth their time, especially if they paid a registration fee, then they aren’t likely to sign up to attend future events. And if they aren’t planning to attend future events, they probably aren’t going to recommend them to other people either.

Below is a list of practices to help you successfully host your own webinar. Along with advice from friends and associates, these are things that I’ve learned through trial and error when hosting webinars. Some of the items I was able to correct after the first time, but a couple of them took a few attempts before learning what worked best for both my audience and I.

The (Forgotten) Power of Email

forgotten power of email

When working with business both in Hawaii and around the world, clients are often interested in jumping into social media. The conversation usually starts with a social media channel and how they can jump into it (e.g. “My friends told me about Facebook and they think it is the best way for me to reach potential customers. How can I get started?). Clients arrive with a correct answer to the wrong question. They are starting with the solution instead of focusing on the problem at hand.

During the first meeting with a client, the first step that we take is to forget about their preselected social media channel and analyze what is the challenge or objective that they want to tackle. After taking this step back and concentrating on strategy, I surprise my clients in making a recommendation for email. Here are a couple reasons why.

How to Use Mail Merge Lists in Word

mail merge word

I don’t know about you, but many a time I have opened up a new Word document only to be met with the old familiar feeling of intimidation. There are so many fantastic features that seem to be hidden away in an endless array of tool bars and drop down menus.

This intimidation surely has no place. Microsoft has done a wonderful job of making all features of their Office products rather user friendly. My first attempt at completing a mail merge was timid and slow as I familiarized myself with the process and its features. Once familiarized however, this process has become second nature.

Little Boy in a Big World

mark zuckerberg

One of the youngest billionaires in the world, also founder and CEO of Facebook, Mr Mark Zuckerberg seems to upset his board of directors and various business partners with his alternative way of managing a company that employs 3000 people. He is very laid back and “modern”, not the usual style of a public company, will this be hard on Zuckerberg or will he show the rest of those ‘experienced businessmen’ some more innovative skills.
